I sketched this in less than an hour, using anatomical reference from an art book I’ve been working my way through.  It’s a shame actually, once I finished the sketch I really wished I’d been recording it, it went so fast.

The book’s got information about facial expressions an the muscles that dictate them, and I’m at the part with the brow and how the frontalis muscles are like venetian blinds on the skull that pull the brow back and wrinkle the forehead.
As a note I love high shiny foreheads and side parts.  The mobile picture that I did the day before yesterday was also from lessons in the book, that one dealing with how movements of the eyebrow effect the folds of the eyelid.

I’ve created an animated gif out of one of my sketches: here Animation is intense. This is only my second one, my first one is here. Only around 30 frames and it took me nearly 3 days to make. I’m sure I’ll get faster as I practice, but whew… My goal is to hand animate a music video. It’s going to be a gigantic project. I used pencil, photoshop, and flash. Feel free to link this around and use on tumblrs, plurks, and forums. but if you want to use it as an illustration or edit it in some way please contact me. Basically, it’s okay for meme/macro use, but I want to know if you intend to publish it for something serious or change it in some way.

Part 7 of the Conversation WIP.  A lot of changes have been made, even since just last night. I caught it all on video but I’m going to wait until I’m done before I cut the last of it together, I’ve been working on this one for too long and when I do that I start to get antsy and needy to finish it. Taking the time to make the video and upload it would just get in the way of my single-minded movement towards the finish line. I don’t say race because the only thing I’m racing is my own lack of interest. This one will get finished before I fall out of love with it, though. I’m really looking forward to starting a new one.

"Conversation" Work in progress: I added braids and started working with color. The video captures at least part of that process, I didn’t think to record until part of the way through.  The thing is still very much in progress, it feels like there is a long way to go.

The music is Black Swan by Thom York.

Same base sketch as the digital piece I was working on, I made a pencil version so I could enter it into a contest that requires traditional media.  I also clothed her because you know, contest. The back of this bathing suit is a kind of homage to a dress designed by a friend of mine.
